I love statistics and geography.
Is it possible to have some on the site.
For instance:
- Members per region (from IP)
- Askers per region
- Histograms of message counts per region

I know that IP is not a definitive evidence for region (for instance, I use 3 IPs, 2 of them registered in Paris/France, the other one in NY/USA) but it is statistically acceptable.

Regards
Michel

We have statistics, but it's not broken down to region.

PS: I can provide you with some raw data if you want to volunteer. Contact me via private mail to discuss this further.

Trying very hard not to sound racist(ic?), but I guess that one isn't too hard..

Statistically? But of course ~1E9 people from India will ask more questions than ~4E6 people from Croatia or even ~3E4 of them in Liechtenstein.

lol you are right, but how many of the 30000 in Liechtenstein are too poor to even own a table to put their laptop on?

Whatever that ratio may be for the laptop-owning population of Liechtenstein, it should be equivalent to that of any country. I do not know of anyone - Indian or otherwise - rich enough to own a laptop but at the same time too poor to afford a table for it.

Besides, I don't see how owning tables has a bearing on the number of questions asked on orafaq.

Obviously, you didn't think enough about it.

People (AKA users) who own a table, actually, own a schema. So, if you don't own a schema, you don't own a table, you (probably) don't use Oracle much and - consequentially - don't ask many questions about Oracle on OraFAQ.
Am I smart or what? /forum/fa/1986/0/

Then again, by that reasoning those who don't own tables should be asking fewer questions not more!

That is a whooping 35%! Some possible reasons:

1) Some user may never wanted to post in the first place, but registered for the additional featured available to registered users.

2) Users that wanted to post, but didn't manage to.

The latter may be a real problem, but we will probably never know.

I have added new pictures and especially one following Frank remark.
Amazing 90% of members have less than 5 posts.

Same anomaly for me.
Number of France posts since I'm there (18/03/2007): 1830.
My posts in the same time between 3500 and 3600 but only 1733 on France.

I use several IP, one registered in France and the other ones in USA.

Posts and members localization is based on the IP.

Michel

Here's what I have until 07/07/07: Wink
MONTH NBPOST
--------- ----------
June 84
July 6

Of course, if you use several IPs I can't know which ones are from you. I have 9 different IPs on June and July for Bangladesh with 101 posts on June and 10 on July.

If you want to know its private statistics, I can send them to you.
You just have to private me your IP(s) (I don't know users, I only know IPs) and what kind of statistics you want.

Warning! It is dangerous to give your IP to someone that you don't know.

Michel

One statistics should be added. That is hierarchy of number of averages messages per day. In members section sorting of message count is possible. Also individual person's average messages per day can be seen. But I got no where I can get sorting list of average messages per day. I think it is much important because you and I are not entered in this forum in same day.

Posting here is not a competition. It is about helping others, not to get more posts than someone else.

I agree with Frank, there is no personal data only statistics on forum and large groups. I neither want some competition comes on posts.
Moreover, even I wanted to I don't have any personal data (and I don't want them). I can't say how many times each one posted.

As I said in my previous post, if you want data on you, provide me your IP(s) and what you want and I'll see what I can do.

Michel

In section "Number of users per number of posts" pie chart and histogram shows different result.
Number of users 0 number of posts pie-chart shows 37% but histogram shows 35.75%.

The reason is quite simple: it is Excel bl... rounding algorithm.
It firsts round all data -> 36% for 0,
then sum all % -> get 99%,
then add 1% to each slot starting from the biggest one till it reaches 100%,
so 0 -> 37%

(Sorry, from time to time part of legend disappeared in pies during copy, they are all "rest of world" or "others").

Next update at beginning of 2008...

How comes in "number of posts and topics during the last 3 months"
section Bangladesh is included with post 1063, but "number of posts and topics during the last 6 months" Bangladesh is not included though Belgium included with much lower posts that is 682.

Good eyes!
This comes that I didn't update statistics in "number of posts and topics during the last 6 months".
New figures are Bangladesh 1215 and Belgium 870.
I'll update this when I'll come back home, you have to wait about 8 hours.
If you find other inconsistencies, please let me know. There are many charts and despite the care I took, some errors may still remain.

There's a "Registered members per country" graph; I know that we are puny and can't fit in there (except among the "others"), but - would it be possible for you to count members located in Croatia, please?

Also, hahaha!, there's a typo in that graph - you've named a group as "Unkwown" instead of "Unknown" Smile
